TDC10 / TDC17 on Wii / Wii U — Setup Guide

Wii/Wii U setup has one key rule: connect things in the right order. Follow this guide once, and you’ll be ready to drum.

RMWII Adapter requiredOrder mattersArcade Mode menu hits

Key point: Don’t connect the RMWII Adapter to the Wii Remote until the game is already launched and showing the controller icon.

RMWII Adapter required (sold separately)

To use TDC10 / TDC17 on Wii / Wii U, you’ll need the RMWII Adapter. It’s a separate add-on (not included by default) that bridges the drum to the Wii Remote connection used by Taiko on Wii/Wii U.

  • Required for: Wii / Wii U Taiko gameplay with TDC drums
  • Tip: Add it to your setup before starting the steps below.

If you don’t have the adapter yet, you can still read the steps so you’re ready when it arrives.

Quick Start (do this in order)

  1. Power the drum from the console.
    Connect Port A → Wii/Wii U USB.
  2. Connect RMWII Adapter to the drum (Port B).
Plug the adapter into Port B — but do NOT connect it to the Wii Remote yet.
  3. Turn on the console and launch the game using the Wii Remote.
Wait until the game shows the controller icon.
  4. Open TDC Mate and set Console Type = Wii/Wii U.
    Save the setting.
  5. Now connect the adapter to the Wii Remote.
If done correctly, the icon switches from controller → drum.

Step-by-step setup

If anything feels weird, redo the steps cleanly — Wii/Wii U is very sensitive to connection timing.

Step 1 — Power the drum (Port A → console USB)

Connect the drum to your Wii/Wii U using a USB cable: Port A → console USB.

Step 2 — Plug the RMWII Adapter into Port B (only)

Connect the adapter to the drum’s Port B.

Important: Do not connect the adapter to the Wii Remote yet.

Step 3 — Launch the game first

Use the Wii Remote to turn on the console and launch Taiko.

Wait until the game UI shows the controller icon (this is the cue).

Step 4 — Set Console Type in TDC Mate

Open TDC Mate and connect to the drum via Bluetooth.

Set Console Type = Wii/Wii U, then Save.

Step 5 — Connect the adapter to the Wii Remote (final step)

Now connect the adapter to the Wii Remote.

If the timing is right, the on-screen icon switches from controller → drum.

Step 6 — Play!

Start a song and enjoy. If the drum icon never appears, check Troubleshooting.

Menu navigation

Two easy ways to navigate songs and menus. If you’re new, Option A is the simplest.

Option A — Wii Remote (recommended)

Use the Wii Remote for menus and prompts. That’s totally normal on Wii/Wii U.

Option B — Navigate with drum hits
Left Ka
Up
Left Don
Down
Right Ka
Confirm
Right Don
Cancel
Tip: If you need to change difficulty and drum hits don’t work on that screen, use the Wii Remote.

Troubleshooting

Most Wii/Wii U issues come from connection timing. The fastest fix is usually redoing the steps in order.

The game never switches to the drum icon
  1. Make sure the adapter is connected to Port B on the drum.
  2. Confirm you did not connect the adapter to the Wii Remote until after the game was launched and showing the controller icon.
  3. In TDC Mate, confirm Console Type = Wii/Wii U and tap Save.
  4. Unplug everything and redo the steps cleanly.
Menu navigation by drum hits feels confusing

That’s normal on Wii/Wii U. Many players use the Wii Remote for menus and the drum for gameplay.

Hits feel off or inconsistent

Double-check the drum is placed correctly on the stand and that you’re using a stable setup surface.

Also make sure your app and firmware are updated for the best stability.
