EcoDisplay — Project Update

EcoDisplay is a project that repurposes retired iPads into USB-C touchscreen displays.
It was successfully funded and shipped via Kickstarter, and is now entering its next stage — evolving based on real user feedback.
This page shares what we’ve learned so far, what’s changing, and where the project is heading next.

No hard sell here — just transparent progress and a place to stay connected.

Where we are now

STATUS

EcoDisplay successfully shipped to early backers. We’re now collecting real-world feedback and planning the next evolution (including narrow-bezel design and HDMI support).

If you’re a backer: thank you. If you’re new here: welcome — you’re early.

What we learned from early users

Early units have reached Japan and Australia, and we’ve received very positive feedback — especially around the concept and daily usability.

Narrow bezel is preferred

Many users told us a tighter, more modern look matters. That’s why we’re designing a new narrow-bezel front glass and matching housing.

HDMI support request

Some users want HDMI (consoles/cameras/extra devices). We’re evaluating the cleanest way to add it without harming portability.

We want more feedback loops

Before the next production run, we’d like to keep a tighter conversation with potential users — to make sure we’re building the right thing.

ED3 supports iPad 3/4

ED3 path is for iPad (3rd/4th gen) conversions — great for high-resolution reuse.

ED7 supports iPad 7/8/9

ED7 path is for iPad (7th/8th/9th gen) conversions — a broader device base for DIY.

Pre-order timing

New tooling (housing + narrow-bezel glass) takes time. That’s the main reason a pre-order makes sense for the next wave.

From Kickstarter to the next evolution

We don’t want to rush a “sales page” right after shipping. Instead, we’re sharing the evolution openly — what we’re improving, why it takes time, and how you can shape the next release.

Key direction: narrow-bezel design, a stronger/thinner housing for assembled units, and a serious look at HDMI support.

New housing + narrow-bezel glass requires tooling + production lead time.

To our Kickstarter backers

Thank you for backing EcoDisplay and helping this idea become real. Your feedback directly guides the next design decisions. If you need any help, the resources below are the fastest path.

We’ll keep this page updated so you can always find the latest info in one place.

Help shape what comes next

If you’re interested in the next wave (or you’re a current user), we’d love to hear what matters most: narrow bezel, HDMI, portability, mounting, cables, workflows…

We’re intentionally collecting feedback before locking the next production design. You’re always welcome to email us at

A note on timing

Most backers are still receiving their units. That’s why this page focuses on transparency and evolution — not pushing new sales.

If you’d like to be included in the next wave, the best way is to join updates and tell us what you care about.
